Gretsch Renown Maple – Heads?
Any Gretsch Renown Maple owners out there?
What is your preference on Drum Heads? What head pairing did you think made your Gretsch RM sound the best?
(Looking to buy new heads for my Gretsch RM) (I’ve seen this online a bit: Evans G2/G1 (G2 on batter, G1 on reso))
And, do you have any muffling at all? Pads/towels/cats in the Bass Drum, moongel/rings/…tape on the toms/snare?
I’ll eventually find out for myself, but in the mean time, what are your preferences?
well… i dont have a gretsch, but drum heads are universal. you will get the same basic tone from a drumhead, or at least similar characteristics. i use a g1 for reso, which is pretty common. i use a ec2 for the batter. i LOVE these heads, and i think you will too. the ec1 are the same cept single ply. i prefer the double ply myself, but the ec series is new-ish and quickly becoming popular. a little more expensive, but i dont sacrifice sound quality for price (at least not when it comes to heads lol). both also come in coated version. no need to muffle, why would you do that on such a nice set?!? get an evans emad 2 or aquarian superkick 3 and if tuned right, you will not need a pillow, or any muffling for that matter, on the entire kit. let that maple ring out, let that kit shine!
